SVIA Consulting was founded on a simple belief: that owners, architects, and developers deserve senior-level technology expertise without paying for a large firm’s overhead, hierarchy, or bench of junior staff.
We are an independent technology consulting firm for the built environment, specializing exclusively in audiovisual, electronic security, and telecommunications design and engineering. Every engagement is led personally by Joe Williams, CTS-D a principal engineer with over two decades of experience and $6B+ in construction project delivery.
We serve clients across healthcare, higher education, corporate, and mixed-use markets who want boutique responsiveness, independent advice, and quality construction documents that actually work in the field at a fee that reflects the value of the work, not the size of our firm.
The People Behind the Work

Joe Williams is a distinguished engineer, entrepreneur, artist and leader with a passion for integrated experiential technologies and deep specialization in architecture, engineering, and construction. He founded SVIA Consulting to bring independent, principal-led technology consulting to clients who deserve senior expertise without enterprise overhead.
With over two decades of hands-on experience, Joe has led the design and engineering of construction projects totaling over $6 billion in value. Most notably, as Director of Design & Engineering at Harvard University, he built a brand new practice, led a team of seven project managers, engineers, and technicians and facilitated the envisioning and execution of a campus-wide digital transformation plan – a first of it’s kind at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Prior to founding SVIA, Joe held senior roles at leading technology consulting and engineering firms, building expertise across K–12 and higher education, healthcare, corporate, and government markets. He holds a B.S. in Audio and Media Technology, he is an AVIXA Certified Technology Designer (CTS-D), and an executive committee member for Boston’s Audio Engineering Society.
